FAQ
Do you offer video chat coaching?
Yes! All sessions are over video chat. Even pre-pandemic all of my sessions were over video, so am very comfortable coaching this way. It also allows you to continue to work with me if you are traveling, or even if you live outside my home base in the Silicon Valley!
What's the difference between coaching and therapy?
Coaching and therapy are both great, and I often work with people who have or are currently working with a therapist. Coaching tends to be more Future-focused and works towards specific goal(s) with a defined end date in mind; we dip into the Past primarily for context, noticing patterns, and pulling on previously successful strategies. Therapy tends to focus more heavily on the Past and Present, often most targeted at alleviating acute symptoms and/or returning someone whose functioning is deeply impaired to a baseline level of wellness. Therapy ends when the patient feels they are better. Coaching can be a great addition to therapy; new practices or habits you and your therapist agree will help you can be a great goal to bring to coaching. Someone who has a diagnosed mental health condition should talk with their therapist before pursuing coaching as an added support. See What is Coaching? to learn more.
What is coaching with you like?
Coaching is about moving forward. It's finding the answers to your most pressing questions and, more importantly, designing and executing a gameplan to reach your goals. Together, we'll look at what you hope to accomplish and the amount of time we'll have together to set some realistic goals. Each session we'll look at your barriers, external and internal, and ways to address them. At the end of a session, you'll leave with some tailor-made "experiment(s)" we design together (anything from "do this thing" to "notice when this happens" and anything in between). The next time we meet we'll talk about how it went, what information it gave you, and where to go from here. Most coaching engagements last between 3-6 months but can run shorter or longer depending on your needs. Sessions are an hour long and happen every 1-2 weeks. Read more at What is Coaching? page.
What do we cover in the Free Discovery Call?
This call is all about YOU; for you to describe your ideal future looks like and how your current state is impacting your life. These calls typically takes ~ 20 minutes and take place over video chat. By the end of this call we should both have a good sense of whether we would work well together and whether my areas of expertise are well-suited to your goals. The main thing to ask yourself are whether you feel comfortable and confident both my style and focus areas are a good match for you. Schedule today!
What does coaching cost?
1:1 and team coaching are bundled into packages of total coaching hours, with discounts for bigger packages. Design and facilitation work is determined per project depending on the scope and needs of the group. Many companies offer education reimbursement programs or have managers approve professional development expenses; check with your manager or HR department to see if your company will support you with coaching!
Do you accept credit cards?
Yes! All billing is done through PayPal.
Do you ever work with teams?
Yes! Check out the Team Solutions page to learn more.
Why don't you offer single-session options?
Coaching is about lasting change, and change doesn't happen in a vacuum. The accountability and time to practice during the 1-2 weeks between sessions will give you a date to complete the goals you've set for yourself. We'll then be able to reflect on how it went, what assisted you, and any barriers you faced. While single sessions have their place, I want to support you in making lasting change, which is most likely to happen over time.
Do you offer refunds?
If you find that after 1-2 sessions we are not the right fit, or you determine coaching is not right for you at this time, no hard feelings; just provide a written notice at least 5 days before our next session and I will refund you for any remaining sessions in your package. While you do not have to explain why you are ending the coaching engagement, I would love the feedback, either over phone, video conference, or email, as it helps me grow as a coach. My ultimate goal is to provide the best possible support to my clients, and feedback is a key part of this!
